A Tesla coil is a type of resonant transformer circuit, normally consisting of two (or three) coupled resonant electric circuits, named for its inventor, Nikola Tesla. The coil is used to produce a high voltage, high frequency alternating current electricity, and they have been used extensively for experiments in electrical lighting, phosphorescence, high frequency AC (and linked phenomena), electrotherapy, and the transmission of wireless electrical energy.
